Bengal players have made kolkata proud by achieving the Second runner-up position in The Asian Cities Chess Championship held in Dhaka from 9th to 17th July. Tehran won the championship battle and Gopalganj team of Bangladesh stood joint runner-up with kolkata.
The team Kolkata, comprised of Rajdeep Sarkar, Srijit Paul, Shubhayan Kundu, Mitrabha Guha and Arpan Das, won 7 matches out of 9 rounds. After losing two consecutive games to Tehran and Gopalganj, they beat Pakpattan City of Pakistan by 4-0 score. In the final round Kolkata defeated Kathmandu by 2.5-1.5 score to finish at the runner-up position.
